A well matched bocal is the single best upgrade for your bassoon! Fox Bassoon C Bore Bocal is of an exceptional value and a great upgrade for your student level instrument. The Fox C bocals fit most modern and older instruments and are a great upgrade for Fox Renard, Schreiber, Kohlert, Miraphone, Moennig, Adler and many other makes of student and intermediate bassoons.

A Fox C2 bocal is equivalent in pitch and resonance to a Heckel CC 1, however the resistance of the Fox C2 is more inline with a Heckel CC2 due to the Fox bocal having a slightly narrower tip opening and more aggressive bend. The tip opening of the Fox C2 is also similar to a Heckel CCE bocal, this slightly more narrower tip opening, increases response in the upper register.

Pro Tip: The Fox C2 bocal doubles as a super-secret upper register bocal for a majority of professional bassoons, before buying a ‘super amazing high note’ bocal, compare it against a Fox C2.

My Perspective: The Fox Bassoon C bore 2 length bocal is really that good and works well on a large majority of student bassoons. I highly recommend a Fox Bassoon C2 bocal and then scraping in the reed to pitch. If you are significantly sharp or flat using a C2, I feel it is more a matter of embouchure, air support, and reed adjustment- these corrections will intern transfer to a professional setup. The Fox C2 is so consistent, I still use a Fox C2 along with my personal bassoon bocals to assess the quality of an instrument and new bassoon reed shapes.
